Week 3 February: Following the Lord’s Prophet & God Keeps His Promises
Week 3 February: Following the Lord’s Prophet & God Keeps His Promises
Scriptures: Genesis 6–9; 11:1–9; Moses 8
Following the Lord’s Prophet
Noah teaches us that God calls prophets to guide His children. Just like Noah, we are blessed when we listen to the Lord’s prophet today.
Activity Idea – “Prophet Role Play”:
-
Read Moses 8:16–24 aloud.
-
Let children act out parts of the story: building the ark, gathering animals, or helping others obey God.
-
Ask: How do we listen to God’s prophet today? What blessings come from following his teachings?
Math & Counting Activity:
-
Using toy animals, ask children to “load” the ark.
-
Count animals by twos, threes, or fours.
-
Word Problem Examples:
-
“Noah put 2 lions on the ark and 2 tigers. How many animals in total?”
-
“There are 5 pairs of ducks. How many ducks are there altogether?”
-
“Noah built 3 decks on the ark. Each deck has 4 rooms. How many rooms are on the ark?”
-
God Will Keep His Promises
After the Flood, God promised Noah that He would always remember His children. The rainbow is a special reminder of that promise (Genesis 9:12–16).
Creative Craft – “Rainbow Promise”:
-
Have children draw or paint a rainbow.
-
Ask them to write or dictate one promise God keeps for them under the rainbow.
-
You could also show objects that remind you of God’s promises—like a wedding ring, picture, or journal—and invite children to share their own meaningful items.
Tracing & Writing Practice (Older Preschoolers & Kindergarteners):
-
“God keeps His promises.”
-
“I listen to the prophet.”
-
“Noah trusted Heavenly Father.”
Following Jesus Is the Only Way to Heaven
The people of Babel tried to reach heaven by building a tower, but it wasn’t the right way (Genesis 11:1–9). We learn that only by following Jesus Christ can we return to Heavenly Father.
Hands-On Activity – “Tower vs. Temple”:
-
Build a “tower” using blocks. Talk about how the people of Babel thought they could reach heaven on their own.
-
Build a “temple” with blocks or paper. Discuss how following Jesus helps us get to heaven.
-
Encourage children to share ways they can follow Jesus in daily life.
Song Idea:
-
Sing a song about following the prophet, like “Follow the Prophet” (Children’s Songbook, 110–11). Ask children to point to or act out something they learn from the song.
Easy, Creative At-Home Crafts Add-On
-
Rainbow Chains: Make a paper chain using the colors of the rainbow to remind children of God’s promises.
-
Prophet Banner: Cut a long strip of paper. Write or draw ways you can follow the prophet. Hang it in your home.
-
Tower vs. Temple Collage: Use scraps of paper to build a “tower” that falls and a “temple” that stands strong. Talk about why following Jesus makes our spiritual “temple” strong.
