Week 5: God Helps Me Do Hard Things
Week 5: God Helps Me Do Hard Things
This week focuses on Enoch and other examples from the scriptures showing that Heavenly Father helps us face challenges. Children can learn that they are never alone when they try to do what is right.
Teaching Idea: Acting Out Challenges
Read Moses 6:26–34 together, then invite your children to act out times when they felt nervous about doing something hard—like learning a new skill, sharing a testimony, or helping someone. Talk about how God helped Enoch and how He can help them too.
Reading Activity:
Have children dictate a short story about a time they did something hard with God’s help. You can write it down and let them “read” it back to you, practicing storytelling and comprehension.
Colors & Art:
Ask children to draw a “path of help,” showing themselves at the start and Jesus or Heavenly Father helping them along the way. They can use different colors for steps they took and help they received.
Math Connection:
Create a simple matching game with numbers: match 1 = Faith, 2 = Repentance, 3 = Baptism, 4 = Holy Ghost. Children can count, match, and place the principles in order leading to a picture of Jesus Christ.
Tracing Page:
Include dotted letters for words like Faith, Help, Repent, Holy Ghost. Children can trace the words as they connect them to the story of Enoch and the first principles of the gospel.
Song Suggestion:
Sing “Faith,” “When I Am Baptized,” or “The Holy Ghost” from the Children’s Songbook to reinforce these gospel principles in a fun way.
For older preschoolers and kindergarteners: These activities give additional reading, writing, and math practice.
Tracing Sentences:
-
God helps me do hard things.
-
I have faith in Jesus.
-
I repent and pray.
-
I can be baptized.
-
I love my family.
Kindergarten Math Word Problems:
-
I have 4 balloons. 2 fly away. How many are left?
-
There are 3 dogs. 2 more join. How many dogs are there now?
-
I have 5 apples. I give 2 to my friend. How many apples are left?
-
There are 2 baskets. Each has 4 eggs. How many eggs are there?
-
I see 6 birds. 3 fly away. How many are left?
Wrapping Up the Lesson:
End the week by inviting your children to share one “hard thing” they feel God can help them with this week. Encourage them to say a prayer asking for guidance, and reflect together on how Heavenly Father gives strength to do hard things. This reinforces that following Jesus isn’t always easy, but we are never alone.
