Week 2 February: Learning from Enoch and Zion
Week 2 February: Learning from Enoch and Zion
Scriptures: Moses 7:18–21, 62–63, 68–69
God Wants Us to Be “Of One Heart and One Mind”
Enoch and his people teach us that when we work together and love each other, we can create a happy, peaceful community. One simple way to explore this idea with your children is through a heart puzzle craft:
Activity:
-
Cut a large paper heart into pieces—one for each child.
-
Have each child write their name on a piece.
-
Work together to assemble the heart, talking about what you appreciate about each person as you fit the pieces together.
This activity helps children visualize unity and teamwork and encourages conversation about kindness and cooperation.
Math and Counting Activity:
-
Read Moses 7:18–21, 62–63, 68–69 aloud.
-
Have children count how many times the word “Zion” appears.
-
Ask them to match each mention of Zion with what the scripture says about its people.
Original Math Word Problem Example:
-
“There are 3 children in Zion planting gardens. Each child plants 2 flowers. How many flowers are there in total?”
-
“Zion had 4 families helping to build houses. Each family built 3 houses. How many houses did they build altogether?”
Choosing to Follow Heavenly Father
Moses 7:32–33 reminds us that Heavenly Father wants us to make good choices. You can make this concept tangible for children:
Activity Idea:
-
Ask children to think of a choice they made recently.
-
Read the verses together, then let them act out good choices—like helping a friend, saying a prayer, or sharing a toy—while others guess the action.
-
This interactive game helps children connect scripture with daily life.
Tracing Sentences (for older preschoolers/kindergarteners):
-
“I choose to follow Heavenly Father.”
-
“I can make good choices every day.”
-
“My family helps me learn and pray.”
Preparing for Jesus’ Return
Moses 7:59–67 teaches that Jesus will come back to Earth. You can help children visualize and understand readiness for His Second Coming:
Craft Idea – “Hearts for the Savior” Countdown:
-
Cut out small paper hearts and number them 1–7.
-
Each day, write one kind action your child can do to prepare for Jesus’ return.
-
Hang the hearts on a string as a weekly chain reminder of service, kindness, and love.
Discussion Prompt:
-
Look at pictures of people meeting Jesus (from art books or printouts). Ask: “How do you think they felt? How would you feel?”
-
Sing “When He Comes Again” (Children’s Songbook, 82–83) and talk about ways we can prepare for Jesus’ return through kindness and prayer.
Creative At-Home Crafts Add-On
Original Ideas for Older Preschoolers and Kindergarteners:
-
Zion Collage: Draw or cut out pictures of people helping, sharing, or praying. Glue them onto a big poster to make your “City of Zion.”
-
Unity Bracelets: Use beads of different colors. Each bead represents a good choice or act of kindness. String them together to show how small actions build a strong, loving community.
