Week 1 November: Learning from Ezekiel About Prophets, Scriptures, and Temple Blessings

Week 1 November: Learning from Ezekiel About Prophets, Scriptures, and Temple Blessings

Ezekiel 3:17; 33:1–5

Prophets are like watchmen who warn us of danger.
Young children can act out Ezekiel 3:17. For example, they could point to their eyes, ears, and mouth when you read the words “watchman,” “hear,” and “mouth.”

Activities:

  • Go on a hike—outdoors or just around the room. Warn children of pretend obstacles like rivers to jump over, branches to duck under, or animals to avoid.

  • Have one child pretend to be a “watchman,” looking out a window and telling others what is happening outside.

  • Watch the video “Watchman on the Tower” (ChurchofJesusChrist.org).

Discussion:

  • How is our living prophet like a watchman for us?

  • Why is it important to listen to the prophet’s counsel?

Math Connection:

  • Count how many “warnings” the children give or hear during the hike.

  • Ask: If each child gives 3 warnings and there are 4 children, how many warnings are there in total?

Ezekiel 37:15–23

The Bible and the Book of Mormon help “gather” us to Jesus Christ.
Children can find two sticks and label one For Judah (Bible) and the other For Joseph (Book of Mormon). Share stories or scriptures from both books that help you feel closer to the Savior and become “[His] people” (verse 23).

Activities:

  • Read short stories from the Bible and Book of Mormon that teach about Jesus.

  • Talk about why it is good to have both books of scripture.

Math Connection:

  • Count the number of stories shared from each book.

  • Ask: If we read 2 stories from the Bible and 3 from the Book of Mormon, how many stories did we read in total?

Ezekiel 47:1–12

Our hearts and families can find healing in the house of the Lord.
Ezekiel’s vision shows water flowing from the temple and healing the Dead Sea. Children could draw objects from the vision—like a temple, river, desert, Dead Sea, fish, or trees—and share their drawings as you read each verse.

Activities:

  • Discuss the blessings that came from the river in the vision.

  • Watch the video “And the River Will Grow” (Gospel Library).

  • Sing “Families Can Be Together Forever” (Children’s Songbook, 188) and discuss what the song teaches about temple blessings.

Math Connection:

  • Count the number of objects children drew from the vision.

  • Ask: If each child draws 3 objects and there are 4 children, how many objects are there in total?

Family Thought & Reflection:

  • How do prophets help guide and protect us?

  • Why are both the Bible and Book of Mormon important in helping us come to Christ?

  • How do temple blessings bring healing and joy to our families?

Preschool Add-On:

  • Letter of the Week: W for Watchman / Water / Word

  • Number: 3 (prophet, scriptures, temple blessings)

  • Shape: Circle (temple, river)

  • Color: Blue (healing waters)

  • Sight Words: I, can, Lord, help

Tracing Sentences:

  • Prophets are like watchmen who warn us of danger.

  • Our hearts and families can find healing in the house of the Lord.

Craft Idea:

  • Make a “River of Blessings” craft: draw a river and add objects from Ezekiel’s vision, labeling how each blessing helps our hearts or families.

Early Elementary Add-On:

  • Reading & Writing Extension: Write a short paragraph: “How I Can Follow the Prophet This Week.”

  • Math Extension: Make a tally chart of blessings or kind actions in the family during the week.
