Week 4: Jesus Christ Saves Us
Week 4: Jesus Christ Saves Us
This week, we’re exploring an important story from the Old Testament: Adam and Eve and the Fall. Understanding this story helps children—and us—see why Jesus Christ’s Atonement is such a blessing in our lives.
Teaching Idea: Sequencing and Discussion
Print or draw pictures showing the story of Adam and Eve. Cut them out and work together to place the events in order. As you do this, ask questions like: “Why did Adam and Eve leave the Garden?” and “How does Jesus Christ help us when we make mistakes?” This helps children see the Fall not as something scary, but as part of Heavenly Father’s plan to bring us closer to Him.
Reading Activity:
Have your child “read” the pictures with you—telling the story in their own words. You can also highlight simple words in Moses 4:25 or Moses 5:8–11 like help, choose, or love for them to trace or recognize.
Colors & Art:
Give children crayons or colored pencils and ask them to draw two sentences: “Because of the Fall, I …” and “Because of Jesus Christ, I …” Encourage them to choose colors that show how they feel about those blessings—maybe red for challenges and yellow for joy.
Math Connection:
Use small objects (like beads or blocks) to represent steps in the story: 1 for Adam, 2 for Eve, 3 for the fruit, 4 for leaving the Garden, 5 for the Atonement. Children can count and line up the steps to reinforce sequencing and numbers.
Tracing Page:
Create a page with dotted letters for simple words: Fall, Jesus, Help, Love. Children can trace the words while connecting them to the story they just discussed.
Song Suggestion:
Sing “Choose the Right Way” from the Children’s Songbook to reinforce the idea of making good choices, even when it’s hard.
For older preschoolers and kindergarteners: These activities give extra reading and writing practice, along with math practice.
Tracing Sentences:
-
I can choose the right.
-
I pray to Heavenly Father.
-
God helps me every day.
-
I am thankful for Jesus.
-
I can make good choices.
Kindergarten Math Word Problems:
-
I have 5 candles. I light 2. How many candles are not lit?
-
There are 3 birds in a tree. 4 more come. How many birds are in the tree?
-
I have 6 apples. I eat 2. How many apples are left?
-
There are 2 baskets of fruit. Each basket has 3 fruits. How many fruits are there in total?
-
I see 7 stars. 3 fall down. How many stars are still in the sky?
Wrapping Up the Lesson:
End your week by asking your children to share one thing they learned about Jesus Christ’s role in helping us overcome mistakes. Invite them to think of a time they needed help and how Heavenly Father or Jesus Christ guided them. Encourage them to say a short prayer of gratitude for the Atonement, helping the lesson sink in spiritually and personally.
