Week 3: Jesus Created the Earth
Week 3 – Jesus Created the Earth
Scripture Focus: Genesis 1:1–25; Moses 2:1–25; Abraham 4:1–25
Hello friends!
This week we’re learning about something truly amazing—Jesus Christ created the earth. From the sun and moon to the plants, animals, and people, everything we see was made by Him. I love thinking about all the care and detail He put into creating the world, and I know your children will enjoy discovering it too.
We’re going to learn about the Creation through seeing, doing, and creating—fun ways to help the scriptures come alive.
1️⃣ Go on a Creation Walk
Take a short walk with your children and look for things God created. You can match them to the days of Creation:
-
Day 1: Light and dark → notice shadows and the sunlight
-
Day 2: Sky and water → clouds, puddles, rivers
-
Day 3: Plants → flowers, grass, trees
-
Day 4: Sun, moon, stars → look at the sky
-
Day 5: Birds and fish → watch birds or fish in a pond
-
Day 6: Animals and people → notice pets, siblings, friends
Tip: Ask your children, “Which part of Creation makes you feel Heavenly Father’s love the most?”
Learning tie-ins: Observation, counting, colors, vocabulary
2️⃣ I Am Created in God’s Image
After reading Moses 2:26–27 with your children, invite them to look in a mirror and say, “I am created in Heavenly Father’s image.”
-
Show pictures of baby animals and their parents. Talk about how each was made to look like its parent.
-
Optional craft: Draw a simple outline of your child’s body, cut it into puzzle pieces, and let them put it back together. Talk about ways they can take care of their bodies and be thankful for them.
Learning tie-ins: Self-awareness, fine motor skills, early reading of sight words (“I,” “am,” “God’s”).
3️⃣ Creation Coloring Page
-
Provide a coloring page with the sun, moon, stars, animals, plants, and people.
-
Encourage children to color each day of Creation with matching colors (blue sky, yellow sun, green plants).
-
As they color, say the day’s name aloud together.
Learning tie-ins: Colors, sequencing, early reading
4️⃣ Make the Sabbath Special
Talk about what God did on the seventh day (Genesis 2:2–3).
-
Ask your children to draw or act out ways to keep Sunday holy: praying, helping, reading scriptures, singing.
-
Practice explaining why Sunday is different from other days.
Learning tie-ins: Moral reasoning, social skills
5️⃣ Sing About Creation
Sing “My Heavenly Father Loves Me” (Children’s Songbook 228–29).
-
Invite your children to add things God created to the song—clouds, trees, animals, or themselves.
-
You can also draw pictures of these creations to go along with the song lyrics.
Learning tie-ins: Music, listening skills, creativity, vocabulary
6️⃣ Creation Puzzle Cards
-
Create simple matching cards with pictures of each day of Creation and the correct day number (1–6).
-
Let children match the pictures to the correct day in order.
Learning tie-ins: Number recognition, sequencing, visual discrimination
This week, children will learn that Jesus made everything and that they are created in His image. Through observation, movement, coloring, music, and discussion, they can see God’s love in the world around them and understand a little more about the care He has for them.
For older preschoolers and kindergarteners: These activities provide extra practice with reading, writing, and math.
